Zalfa A. Abdel-Malek, PhD, is Professor of Dermatology at the University of Cincinnati. Her expertise is in the regulation of human pigmentation, and the response of melanocytes to environmental stressors, particularly solar UV. She pioneered the research on the melanocortin 1 receptor (MC1R), and demonstrated its significance in regulating human melanocytes. She was President of the IFPCS and of the PASPCR, and recipient of the Myron Gordon and Lerner Awards.
